Step 1: Confirm You Meet the Basic Requirements
Before applying, make sure you meet the eligibility requirements:
League Cadet Corps (NLCC): Ages 10–13
Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC): Ages 13–18
Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
Education: Must be enrolled in school and maintain satisfactory grades
Character: Must be of good moral character and free of serious legal issues
Physical Condition: Must be in good health and able to participate in training activities
Step 2: Locate a Local Unit
Go to the official website: www.seacadets.org
Click “Find a Unit” to search by ZIP code.
Review the list of nearby units — most are located at Navy, Coast Guard, or Reserve centers, though some meet at schools or community centers.
Step 3: Contact the Unit Commanding Officer
Once you find a local unit:
Email or call the Commanding Officer (CO) to express your interest.
Ask about the next orientation or open house.
Request an application packet and information about meeting times and training schedules.
Step 4: Complete the Application Process
You’ll need to submit several documents, which may include:
Completed Application Form
Medical Examination Form (signed by a healthcare provider)
Proof of Citizenship (birth certificate, passport, or green card)
School Report Card or Transcript
Parental Consent Forms
Application Fee (varies by unit)
Step 5: Attend the Unit Orientation
You and your parents will attend an orientation meeting, where you’ll:
Learn about program rules and expectations
Get uniform instructions
Meet officers and other cadets
Receive a schedule for drills and training events
Step 6: Begin Drills and Training
After you’re officially enrolled:
Attend monthly drills (usually one weekend per month)
Participate in summer and winter trainings
