About Us
Seal Beach Battalion is proud to be part of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC), a nationwide youth leadership and development program sponsored by the Navy League of the United States and supported by the United States Navy and Coast Guard.
Who We Are
Established on October 2, 1990, the Seal Beach Battalion originated at Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach, California, where it proudly served the local community for many years. Today, the battalion continues its legacy of excellence at its new home at Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, California.
We are a diverse and motivated group of young men and women, ages 10 through 18, who share a passion for adventure, learning, and service. Our dedicated team of volunteer officers and instructors, many of whom are current or former military members, provide professional mentorship and leadership to guide our cadets in achieving their fullest potential.
Our Programs
Seal Beach Battalion includes two interconnected programs within the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps, creating a continuous pathway for growth and advancement.
U.S. Naval League Cadet Corps (NLCC): Ages 10–13
The NLCC introduces young cadets to military structure, teamwork, and naval traditions in a supportive and engaging environment.
Eligibility: Must be 10 years old and have started fifth grade.
Cadets may remain in the NLCC through the end of eighth grade, regardless of age.
Emphasizes foundational skills such as basic seamanship, community service, and citizenship.
Builds confidence, discipline, and respect for self and others.
U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC): Ages 13–18
The NSCC offers advanced leadership development and specialized training opportunities.
Eligibility: Must be 13 years old and have reached March 1 of their eighth-grade year.
Provides hands-on training in areas such as aviation, medicine, cybersecurity, and seamanship.
Operates within a structured framework modeled after Navy customs and values.
Prepares cadets for future success in college, careers, or potential military service.
Together, these two programs form a seamless path of growth, allowing younger cadets to advance from the NLCC into the NSCC as they mature and take on greater challenges and responsibilities.
What We Do
Cadets in the Seal Beach Battalion participate in a wide range of training opportunities, including:
Naval and maritime skills: seamanship, navigation, communications, and shipboard life
STEM and aviation programs: robotics, cybersecurity, flight orientation, and technical training
Leadership development: rank advancement, team-building, and public service projects
Military and community service: color guards, parades, and volunteer outreach events
During summer and winter trainings, cadets have the opportunity to attend advanced courses and experiences at military bases nationwide, from sailing and scuba diving to medical, aviation, and law enforcement programs.
Our Mission
To prepare young Americans for leadership and citizenship by fostering an appreciation for naval service and a deeper understanding of the importance of teamwork, discipline, and responsibility.
